Visa Information

Nepal can be accessed by everyone because of its simple visa process. At Hill Walker Homes, we believe that every journey begins with proper planning. In case you are considering visiting Nepal for a vacation, adventure trip, or even a long trekking holiday, we have got this short guide which focuses on everything important regarding the visa process to Nepal.

Visa on Arrival

When flying into Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, there are several land border crossing points, such as India or Tibet/China, which also have terminals where multiple flights arrive from different countries. Receiving a Visa on Arrival is hassle-free as well.

See how the process works:

Step 1: Fill in the arrival card

Upon arrival, you will need to complete an arrival form. You can also fill out this online form through Nepal’s official immigration website to save time.

Step 2: Send the visa online application

You can use self-service visa kiosks available at the airport or fill out the online registration form within 15 days before the trip date. After shipping, print the confirmation receipt and take it with you.

Step 3: Pay the visa fee

Proceed to the visa fee payment counter and pay according to the duration of your stay (see the details of the rate below).

Step 4: Immigration Authorization

Finally, send your documents together with the receipt of payment to the immigration officer. Once approved, your visa will be stamped on your passport.

This whole process usually takes less than 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of arrivals.

Visa Fees (as of 2025)

Visa rates depend on the number of days you want to stay in Nepal. You can pay the fee in several important currencies such as USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, or CAD. Although credit card machines are available on some counters, they are not always reliable due to connectivity problems, so we strongly recommend the transfer of money.

Visa duration Rate (USD)
15 days $ 30
30 days $ 50
90 days $ 125

You can also be eligible to extend your visa if you want to stay longer (details below).

Documents Required

Before you reach Nepal, prepare the following documents to ensure a smooth visa process:

  • Valid Passport – Your passport should be valid for at least six months from your entry date.
  • Passport-size photo – This is not always necessary at the airport kiosk; it is good to take one in case of technical problems. A digital photo can also be sent online.
  • Visa Rate – As observed, carry money in major international currencies to avoid delays.

Visa Extensions

For those who fall in love with Nepal, which is very common, extending your visa is exceptionally simple. This flexibility greatly benefits travelers wishing to dive deep into the culture, festivals, and people, or explore multiple trekking routes in the country.

You can apply for a visa extension at:

  • Department of Immigration – Kathmandu
  • Immigration Office – Pokhara

Visa extension fees:

  • Minimum 15-day extension: USD 45
  • Each additional day: USD 3 per day

Overstay penalties: If you do not extend your current visa, there are fines associated with visa expiration, and there will be problems when you try to leave the country.

Important Tip: Always renew your visa before it expires to avoid legal challenges – the inconvenience of travel.

Should you require assistance completing the forms or need guidance on how to get to the Immigration Office, Hill Walkers Home Pvt. Ltd. fully helps with visa extensions.

Other Things To Keep In Mind

  • Indian nationals: An Indian citizen who travels to Nepal does not need a visa, but must present an identity document issued by the government (passport, voter identification, or Aadhaar photo).
  • SAARC Nationals: Visitors from SAARC countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Maldives can enjoy a free tourist visa once a year, valid for thirty days. All additional visits within the year require the standard fee to be paid.
  • Restricted Countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Afghanistan, Iraq, Cameroon, alongside several other countries listed, have restrictions and must apply for a visa through Nepalese embassies or consulates outside their nation. It is best to check eligibility for applying with Nepali diplomatic missions before traveling.
  • Multiple Entry Visa: For those who intend to return to Nepal via bordering nations should directly inform immigration about their plan, as it requires an extra $25 charge.

Visa for Trekkers and Climbers

Holders of tourist visas can enter Nepal; however, there may be special permits required for certain trekking and climbing areas, which include but are not limited to:

  • TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
  • Park or Conservation Area Permits
  • Restricted Area Permits (Upper Mustang, Manaslu, Dolpo, and others)

Once your trek has been confirmed, Hill Walkers Home Pvt. Ltd. will take care of all necessary permits. No need to waste time with queues; we handle all the paperwork.
